will vista offer increased path length file name size

Will VISTA offer increased path-length/file-name-size?

I don't know about you guys, but I have, more than one, run it the path length limit. I'm hoping to be able to use much larger path lengths and file names.

Does anyone know what VISTA has to offer?

Maybe it's just me, but I'd seriously consider reworking my folder structure long before a path+filename reaches more than 260 characters...
I *have* run into the limit, but every time this has happened it was because of some ridiculously long filename. The general idea is to put a document *inside* a file, not use it as a filename...
IMNSHO, that's like when people used to complain that they couldn't put more than 32,768 items in a listbox control...when you reach that point, it's impossible to use anyway.

Excel 2007 -- 1 million rows, 16 thousand columns.
Looked at a phone book recently?
If these are arranged in a meaningful order, there's no problem with the count.

Unlike most of your posts, the text you wrote here is completely unhelpful. Is the original poster supposed to wade through 100's pages of marketing rubbish trying to find out if the path length issue is addressed?
I don't see anything helpful on that site, just trumpet blowing nonsense designed to impress the home user.
Notice also that under the "business" section, they only have a heading for "Small business". Where is the page for BIG business??

In general I agree, but when you've got 100s of users who's shared work covers a ten year period, a big network server should be able to cope with more than 260 characters. The situation is made worse because on a network the path length changes if you have mapped drives; this means you can have it working one minute with a mapped drive then suddenly break when a process such as CACLS needs to clean up on the UNC.
Anyone know what the Linux path limit is?
